Administer prophylactic antiemetics according to patient risk of PONV

PONV prophylaxis medication classes include dopamine antagonists like droperidol, serotonin antagonists like ondansetron, and corticosteroids like dexamethasone. Risk factors for PONV include female sex, history of motion sickness or PONV, and being a non-smoker. Patients with 1-2 risk factors should receive 2 medications from different classes. Patients with higher risk should receive medications from 3 different classes. Rescue treatment of PONV should include medications from a class not yet used.
