Optimize preoperative fasting

Clear liquids 2 hours preoperatively and solid foods 6 hours preoperatively do not increase gastric contents, gastric acidity, or increase surgical complication rates. Preoperative fasting requirements for patients should be 2 hours for clear liquids and 6 hours for solid food and specifically communicated to each patient based on their scheduled surgery time.
