Perform preoperative patient education and counseling

Patient education and counseling is associated with reduced preoperative patient anxiety. Evidence level is low given lack of randomized and controlled evidence, but this intervention is strongly recommended given it is implemented in all established ERAS facilities and is unlikely to cause patient harm. More evidence is required to investigate whether different patient populations should receive different preoperative education or how different patient populations may benefit from education differently.
