Triage, place, and discharge patients

During infectious disease outbreaks, triage is particularly important to separate patients likely to be infected with the pathogen of concern. Healthcare workers can communicate with the patient before arrival, set up and equip triage, and designate a “respiratory waiting area” for suspect cases. A defined process should also be implemented, including dissemination of face masks and limiting visitors.
